An update on Zeta-Theta

Pi Kappa Alpha and the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternities jointly hosted a Halloween Party for well over 500 college students at the Cool River Ranch (www.coolriverranch.net) located just east of San Marcos in Martindale on Friday Night that included live music when a terrible tragedy resulted.  Cool River Ranch uses charter buses apparently owned and operated by Skyline Party Bus to transport participants from the HEB in San Marcos out to the event and back, and one of the patrons, Jordin Taylor, 20, was found under one of the buses on Saturday at approximately 1:09 pm at the Cool River Ranch property about 500 feet from the event entrance.  Jordin, a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and a student at Texas State University who graduated in 2015 from Centennial High School in Burleson, was an amazing individual by all accounts and our collective prayers and sympathy goes out to her family.  A friend of Taylor’s, said that Taylor “was one of the sweetest, kindhearted and loving individuals she had ever met, and was someone you could always count on.” “Jordin had an amazing personality that could light up a room and was loved by all. She was truly an amazing person and will be missed very much.”

Investigators from the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Department said an autopsy shows the cause of death being consistent with being struck and dragged by the bus, and that her death appears to be an accident, but the investigation continues.  Further, investigators revealed that at around 11:15 p.m. Friday night, one of the shuttle buses lost its air braking system. The bus driver’s supervisor told the driver to leave the bus where it stopped and transfer to another bus. A mechanic arrived Saturday and found the woman’s body. Authorities believe the bus’ mechanical problems were a result of the collision with the student.

Per an interview with Matt Flores, spokesman for Texas State University, said that this was a properly registered off-campus event that included police providing security and paramedics on scene, although no official statement has been released by the University.  Many participants said the event ended relatively early around 11:30 PM without anyone realizing that the tragedy had occurred.  Taylor was a member of Texas State sorority Alpha Delta Pi, held a public balloon release ceremony at the Hill Country Event Center in San Marcos on Thursday evening to pay tribute to her and held a private memorial service after.

Visitation for Jordin is scheduled at the Greenwood Memorial Park in Burleson, TX on Friday, November 4th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, and the funeral service is scheduled on Saturday, November 5th at 3:00 pm at Victory Family Church in Burleson, TX.

The Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity has voluntarily suspended operations until the investigation is concluded and is determining how our group can best assist Jordin’s family.  By voluntarily suspending operations, Pi Kappa Alpha Zeta Theta Fraternity will not be holding any social events and will not be wearing Pike colors and letters until the investigation is concluded, but Chapter Meetings will continue as scheduled.
