David Collier ’70

David Collier did not intend to join a fraternity when he arrived at Southwest Texas State College in the fall of 1965.  He came from a very small town in south Texas and knew nothing about Greek organizations. David’s mind was changed when one of his friends from Elliott Hall convinced him to go through rush in the spring of 1966.

That ended up being a great decision.

Brother Collier soon realized that he needed to be part of an organization that had the same values and beliefs as his parents had taught him.  Ralph Davis, a Pike, was dating a girl from David’s home town and she convinced him that Pi Kappa Alpha would be the right place for him. As it turned out, that girl was right and David fit perfectly with the ideals and values of Pi Kappa Alpha. David eventually received a bid from Pi Kappa Alpha and was initiated in the spring of 1966.

In his time as an undergraduate brother of the Zeta-Theta chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha, David served as Historian, Secretary and when the Pikes got the first fraternity house at Southwest Texas, he was the House Manager and Secretary of the Housing Corporation.

After graduation from Southwest Texas State University in January 1970, David joined Lever Brothers Co. as a sales rep in San Antonio. Between 1970 and 1975, he was involved in sales, training new sales reps and sales management in San Antonio, Shreveport and Houston. In 1974 he won the highest award given to a Sales Manager in the southern region.

In 1975, David left Lever Brothers Co. to pursue his own business. He and his spouse, Marky, bought a Meineke Discount Muffler franchise in Beaumont. By the end of 1976, the Beaumont store became the second highest performing Meineke store in the nation. During this time, David also served on the Meineke Muffler Franchisee Advisory Board.

Wanting to get back to central Texas, David and his family moved to Austin and bought a cabinet company and built it into the largest custom cabinet manufacturer in central Texas.

Brother Collier retired in 2005 to step back from full time responsibilities.  He continues to reside in Austin, Texas and consults with cabinet manufacturers while also managing the family commercial real estate interests.

David Collier has always been a very active member in his community. During his time in Cedar Park, David served as a board member on the Cedar Park Chamber of Commerce and the First State Bank Central Texas. In addition to this, David’s business was awarded the 1986 Business of the Year by the Cedar Park Chamber of Commerce.

To David, Pike means lifetime friendships with brothers that he knows he can always count on. This is seen with his continued involvement with the Zeta-Theta chapter of Pike. Semi-retirement has allowed David to become more involved in volunteering as an advisor for Zeta Theta. He has served as the Chapter Advisor, currently serves as the Alumni Advisory Board Treasurer advising the Zeta Theta Treasurer, the Housing Corporation President and as President of The Garnet and Gold Social Society.

David enjoys playing golf with other Pikes around Texas, New Mexico and Colorado and traveling the world with Pikes and their wives.

David and his wife, Marky, have been married for 44 years. Together they have two sons, Colby and Cory, a daughter-in-law Sarah and three grandchildren named Sydney, Dax and Stone.
